It’s never a good situation for the child or the parents when one spouse is trying to purposefully alienate the child from the other parent. If this happens to you, the most important thing to do is to stay focused and remember that you want the best for your child. Stay organized, keep notes of specific instances in which that parent is doing something that’s alienating. Be prepared to really be able to tell the court what specifically your spouse is doing to cause the alienating behavior. And always remember what type of affect that it might have on the child. Cite specific examples, maybe keep a journal. Maybe keep a small diary with you. The most important thing is to make sure that the issues are clear, so that the Court can determine what steps to take to help you protect what’s important to you, and keep your child’s best interests at heart.
