Child Custody

There are several types of Child Custody. Legal Custody involves the right and responsibility to make decisions for your child. While Residential (physical ) custody is the term used to describe who the child will live with (custodial parent). In joint custody, the parents make major decisions about the child together – decisions about education, health, and religion, for example. The smaller, day-to-day decisions in joint custody are made by the parent who is physically caring for the child at the time. In sole custody, just one parent has the right to make the major decisions. Visitation is the term used to describe the scheduled time that the non-custodial parent spends with the child. There are numerous ways to arrange a visitation schedule, and because each situation is unique–it is essential to carefully tailor the visitation schedule to the needs of your individual child and family.
